Manchester United official at Fenerbahçe today – Travels to Istanbul for 19-year-old

Manchester United have sent a scout to Istanbul to watch Yusuf Akçiçek as Fenerbahçe take on Rangers in the Europa League.

That’s according to journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, who reports that Manchester United are watching the 19-year-old centre-back.

Akçiçek has been a regular for Fenerbahçe this season, with 14 appearances in all competitions to date and 805 minutes of action.

He’s started and finished all of their last five games in the Europa League and recently played 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Galatasaray in the Super Lig.

It’s been a quick rise for the youngster, who only made his debut in the Super Lig last season and has quickly risen through the ranks since.

This rise has seemingly earned him plenty of attention and according to Sabuncuoğlu, Manchester United are sending a scout to watch him in action.

Whether that leads to anything remains to be seen. Their problems in defence are well known but they’ve already spent big to try and rectify those issues and it seems unlikely that a 19-year-old from Turkey with less than 1000 minutes under his belt this season would be the answer.
