The latest injury and suspension news from relegation strugglers Wolves as they prepare to face an in-form Everton side
Two of the most successful mid-season hires of the 2024/25 season face off at Molineux this weekend as Vitor Pereira’s Wolves play host to David Moyes’ Everton.
Wolves head into the game in 17th position and with a steady five point cushion on the relegation zone. It represents a huge turnaround from the situation that Pereira inherited from Gary O’Neil when the Old Gold were in 19th position, five points from safety, back in December.
Elsewhere in Merseyside, Everton are experiencing something of a renaissance themselves under returning manager David Moyes. The Scotsman returned to Goodison Park in January with the team in 16th position and only one point from safety after winning just three of their opening 19 games under Sean Dyche. However, while the Toffees remain in 16th they now have a seemingly insurmountable 15 point gap on the relegation places and are on a long seven match unbeaten streak despite the absence of the same big-hitters like Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin due to injury.
Everton have coped extremely well with a dearth of attacking options in recent weeks, with Beto stepping up to the plate with five goals in his last six matches. Wolves will hope someone can do the same in their squad as they face up to a key run of games without talismanic striker Matheus Cunha, who was sent off for a moment of insanity during the team’s FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth.
Ahead of what promises to be an intriguing battle at the bottom of the table, we take a look at the latest injury and suspension news from Wolves.
Wolves defensive injury issues
Yerson Mosquera - out. The Colombian defender has been out with a long-term knee injury since September and it has been a frustrating campaign for him so far. Former boss O’Neil said back in October: “It’s really early days, and I don’t want to put a definitive time scale on it, but everything went very well with the surgery. Over the next days and weeks, we’ll start to really map out what the rehab looks like.” He’s unlikely to play again this season. Expected return date: 01/06/2025 .

Emmanuel Agbadou - doubt. The impressive January recruit went off against Liverpool last month with a thigh problem. However, he appears to be closing on a return and was pictured in training at at Compton Park this week. Expected return date: 08/03/25.
How many games will Matheus Cunha be banned for?
Matheus Cunha - out: Brazil forward Matheus Cunha has been a real game-changer for Wolves with 13 goals and four assists but he faces a period of absence through suspension after acting in an ‘in proper’ manner against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.
Cunha was dismissed for violent conduct in the final minute of extra-time during Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round tie, which Bournemouth won on penalties, after lashing out and appearing to aim a headbutt at Milos Kerkez. Wolves' stand-in captain initially refused to leave the field after being shown the card by referee Sam Barrott and had to be dragged down the tunnel. Cunha is subsequently facing a three-match ban but the punishment may yet increase after this latest charge.
Sasa Kalajdzic - out. The striker’s move to Molineux hasn’t worked out and he has had rotten luck on the injury front. He is currently in the treatment room with a knee issue. Expected return date: 01/04/2025.
Leon Chiwone - out. The youngster has ruptured his ACL and won’t be seen again in this campaign. He has said: “Devastated to say that I've ruptured my ACL, and it will bring my season to an end just after coming back from injury.” Expected return date: 01/06/2025.
Goncalo Guedes - doubt. The winger is in the treatment room with a knee injury and is being assessed ahead of this weekend’s match. Pereira said before the Bournemouth clash last week: “I think he went in the morning for an MRI, we'll see, I think he has some pain on his knee. It'll be difficult to recover for the game.” Expected return date: 08/03/2025.
Rodrigo Gomes - doubt: The Portuguese wide-man is back in training and targeting a return against Everton. Expected return date: 08/03/25.
