Derby County failed in an attempt to sign former Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho during the January transfer window.
That's according to The Telegraph who report that Derby pursued a loan deal for Iheanacho from La Liga side Sevilla.
However, the move didn't come to fruition as the forward, who scored the goal that put the Foxes into the 2021 FA Cup final, chose to join playoff contenders Middlesbrough instead.
Iheanacho made an appearance off the bench against Derby in their recent loss to Boro, with his blocked volley leading to Finn Azaz's goal in the final 10 minutes. Derby had openly expressed their intention to sign a forward during the winter window to enhance their frontline options.
Yet, the deadline passed without any new striker joining the squad, and a move for playmaker John Swift from West Brom also collapsed in the closing hours.
Karlan Grant from the Baggies was another potential recruit considered by Derby, but a deal never materialised. Derby had also shown interest in Liverpool striker Jayden Danns, who eventually joined Sunderland on loan to aid their promotion campaign, reports Derbyshire Live.
Following their failure to secure a striker, Derby turned their attention to former Rangers forward Kemar Roofe, who made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Millwall.
