Fieldfisher and TheBusinessDesk.com’s International Women’s Day Business Breakfast panel session featured Katie Charles, Chief Legal Counsel and Company Secretary, Everton Football Club and Gemma Krysko, Founder, Queens of Tomorrow and Co-Founder, We are Indigo.
As well as a breakfast and an unrivalled view of the Manchester cityscape from Fieldfisher’s 17th floor offices, guests were treated to some sharp insights from three impressive women on the eve of International Women’s Day.
Sarah Ellson, a partner at Field Fisher, described the event as a positive and inspiring experience. “It was brilliant, and hopefully a bit of inspiration for people to go away and try a few things differently in their own lives and workplaces.”
During the discussion, and in response to a question around male confidence, Sarah urged women to be honest and, if necessary, vulnerable.
“Be confident about what you know about, and honest about what you don’t,” she said.
Katie Charles, from Everton Football Club, praised the discussion around how women’s perceptions of themselves in the workplace are evolving. “Women are able to utilize their own strengths to actually change the dynamics within the workplace and challenge perceptions that have been there previously,” she said.
On that theme Gemma Krysko, who cofounded her own PR agency as well as developing a new movement Queens of Tomorrow, aimed at inspiring women, was particularly struck by the conversations she had afterwards, with male attendees.
“The most interesting thing for me was that it wasn’t the women who came to speak to me afterwards, but the men, asking how they can help support their wives and partners getting back into work,” she said.
“That’s exactly what this is about – seeing things from a 360-degree perspective, not just from the eyes of a woman.”
She emphasised the importance of creating a more inclusive environment in workplaces, noting that “it’s about bringing the conversation so [men] can understand some of the challenges that women do have in the business environment.”
The speakers’ reflections highlight the value of open dialogue and shared experiences in driving progress for women in business.
