Newcastle United are set to come up against their modern-era nemesis in the form of Liverpool in the Carabao Cup at Wembley in under two weeks' time.
The Magpies' record against Liverpool in the past 30 years is nothing short of abysmal and as such the levels of hope that Newcastle could lift silverware later this month were already low, but as the squad crumbles into dust, the expectations are on the floor.
Or at least they were.
There's a renewed optimism among the fans who watched Liverpool in action against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last night.
While Liverpool ultimately won the match, they scored in the 87th minute with their only shot on target, indeed it was one of only two shots they had all game.

The only reason Liverpool won last night
Alisson was the difference for Liverpool last night but Alexander Isak won't be so forgiving
Were it not for an unbelievable performance by goalkeeper Alisson, Liverpool would have been battered as PSG dominated the game and had 27 shots at goal, 10 of which Alisson had to deal with.
Of course you could say that the fact that Liverpool won despite being under the cosh for so long shows how dangerous they are, but if Newcastle can get up in their face like PSG did last night, Alexander Isak won't be so forgiving when face-to-face with Alisson.
There are no points at stake, so there is no reason for Newcastle to be guarded against goal difference, we just need to get out there and disrupt their game as much as possible.

Let's go full-Keegan and attack, attack, attack!
I'd much rather we went out on the 16th to try and prove a point, and if we were to get absolutely smashed because we left ourselves vulnerable at the back because we went all Kevin Keegan on them, I'd be fine with that.
All I want is to see our lads give everything on the day and whatever happens, happens.
Liverpool are beatable, no team is invincible. Hell, Plymouth Argyle knocked them out of the FA Cup.
