Glen Ilunja joins Manchester United on trial

Manchester United’s future success may depend heavily on its academy, with financial limitations forcing a greater reliance on youth development.

Ineos has already made significant investments in the club’s youth setup, bringing in several talented youngsters over the past year.

Chido Obi was among the first, arriving from Arsenal last summer and quickly catching Wayne Rooney’s attention with his FA Cup performance against Fulham.

Diego Leon and Sekou Kone have also joined, both showing immense promise.

Now, another young talent has entered the frame, with 15-year-old Republic of Ireland defender Glen Ilunga undergoing a trial at the club, as reported by the Mail Online.

Glen Ilunga, who moved to England last September, has impressed at the Manchester-based AR Elite Academy, where United scouts identified his potential.

Highly regarded in youth football circles, the teenager is described as a dominant presence in the air while also being comfortable on the ball, fitting the mold of a modern centre-back.

United’s academy depth in defence has improved significantly in recent years, a stark contrast to a time when options were scarce beyond Lisandro Martinez.

Leny Yoro, at just 19, is seen as a future star, while 17-year-old Godwill Kukonki has already caught Ruben Amorim’s attention.

With an additional first-team signing expected to replace Martinez, United could have a defensive unit built to last for the next decade—even more so if Ilunga earns a place in the setup.
