West Ham United are looking to bolster their midfield as they look to a former Manchester United star this summer.

The Hammers are currently in 15th place in the Premier League, fighting to star in the league, with a spot in next year’s Premier League looking likely, although not yet confirmed.

This season, West Ham brought in Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer from Real Betis, and Carlos Soler returned from loan with PSG.

However, Graham Potter’s side are now looking to land another free transfer in the form of Angel Gomes.

The Guardian has reported that West Ham are targeting Gomes, whose contract ends with French side LOSC Lille in the summer.

As such the 24-year-old is eligible for a free transfer at the end of the season, making his signing an absolute bargain.

Gomes has been a key player for the Ligue 1 side and despite several injury woes this season, he’s still made 20 appearances with two goals and an assist.

The report explains that Potter is looking for a strong holding midfielder who can control possession, with Gomes looking likely to fit the bill.

Over recent months it looked likely that United would be attempting to resign the midfielder, so we could still see a battle between United and West Ham to bring the England international back to the Premier League.
