While so much of the mainstream media discuss Alexander Isak’s future, Newcastle United may be on the lookout for another striker as Callum Wilson nears the end of his contract.
Having two high-profile forwards in the same squad may be a tough ask, but PIF’s ambition was reaffirmed by Darren Eales this week and increased strength in depth is essential if the club are to compete in the Premier League, both cup competitions and (hopefully) Europe next season.
The latest link comes from Italy, with a certain Serie A forward thought to be emerging as a Newcastle target as he nears the final 12 months of his contract in Turin.
According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
[TVPlay](https://www.tvplay.it/2025/03/04/juve-cessione-vlahovic-giuntoli-ha-gia-scelto-il-nuovo-centravanti/) – a media outlet part of the Gazzetta dello Sport group – are reporting that Newcastle are in the mix for the Serbian international, who has dropped out of Thiago Motta’s side in recent weeks.
The 25-year-old is out of contract next summer and a summer sale appears likely, with Juve prepared to accept an offer in the region of €30m for the striker.
Considering his age and respectable return of 14 goals in 33 games so far this season, a £25m fee may be considered a real bargain, with Vlahovic involved in 100 goals (84 goals and 14 assists) in 194 Serie A appearances.
Arsenal have also been heavily linked with the 6ft 3′ forward, with Mikel Arteta in the market for an out-and-out striker after the Gunners’ struggle for goals this season.
It’s a positive dilemma to have, but if Newcastle keep main man Alexander Isak at the club this summer, our bid to sign another striker to compete with the Swede is far from straightforward.
Anyone coming in to replace the soon-to-be out of contract Callum Wilson would not be guaranteed starts as long as Isak stays fit, unless Howe moves to a system them features two strikers.
With that in mind, it’s hard to imagine a high-profile option like Vlahovic arriving if we keep a hold of Isak, as you’d imagine the Serbian wants to be the main man somewhere – not to mention the fact he’d command big wages.
If Isak stays and Wilson departs, finding a quality, reliable and realistic back-up striker will be a tough challenge for Paul Mitchell and co.
