Report: Man Utd in 'formal talks' to sign one of Argentina's most exciting talents, he's already a 'great player'

With Ineos looking to sign the world’s best young footballers for Manchester United, South America was always bound to become a target.

Finances at Old Trafford are in a perilous situation which makes the prospect of throwing money at the club’s problems slim.

Instead, Manchester United are aiming to sign players like Chido Obi, Diego Leon and Sekou Kone. Young talents with an incredibly high ceiling making it low risk but high reward.

Ruben Amorim is already reaping the rewards of this recruitment strategy, with Obi becoming a first-team star for United.

The South American market is also something Ineos appear keen to enter. United signed Leon from Cerro Porteno and now Argentine is emerging as a hotbed for talent.

Manchester United in talks to sign Juan Gimenez

Argentina are the reigning World Cup champions and is home to some of the worlds most exciting talents.

One Argentine wonderkid on Ineos’ radar is Franco Mastantuono who United are interested in signing. United are also showing an interest in 18-year-old centre-back Juan Gimenez.

Now, according to Argentinian outlet, Planeta Canalla 1889, talks have opened formally between United and Rosario Central.

With talks underway to sign Gimenez, the outlet has added that there will be further news on this in the coming days.

This is yet another deal which has the fingerprints of Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox all over it.

Gimenez is a long-term target for Manchester United

Despite being completely in line with the new recruitment strategy, Gimenez is a player in whose interest dates back to before the new transfer department was in place.

The ability of Gimenez has long been known in Argentina as a potentially brilliant defender in the future, with his youth coach Jesus Gonzalez lauding his abilities, as quoted by The Capital.

“I see him play now and he has the same nature and ease as when he was younger. He added many things with the coaches he had later to be the great player he is today.”

United have also been aware for a long time, with Scouts Attending claiming in March 2024 that the Red Devils had scouted Gimenez in the Copa Libertadores U20.

Gimenez was on the winning side that day, and now one year on United are in talks for the 18-year-old. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
