He has collected just seven points from a possible 42 but Ruud van Nistelrooy does not regret taking the Leicester City job.
Knowing what he does now, about how testing his first few months at the King Power Stadium would be, van Nistelrooy would still have taken the reins at City, he has said, because he enjoys the challenge and the process.
After earning just two wins from 14 matches, City now likely need four or five victories from their final 11 outings in order to stay up.
They could be eight points from safety by the time they travel to Chelsea on Sunday if Wolves beat Everton at Molineux on Saturday night.
“For me, I accepted the challenge with the preparations I took and knowing what I know now, I would still have done,” van Nistelrooy told Sky Sports.
“I like the process. I like what we’re doing every day. I like what am I doing with my team to implement certain standards, to talk with recruitment on building a team with certain profiles, how to play, how to go into the future.
“It’s something that I like, that I love and that I feel will bring results in the end. But I know it’s also the now. It’s a results game. I need results and we all need results to stay in a job and stay in the league.”
It’s been a desperate recent run for City, who have lost 11 of their last 12 Premier League games, and have failed to score in their last four outings. But there’s no sense of van Nistelrooy giving up hope.
He said: “With the competition we’re in, everything has to be perfect for us to get some momentum going and I believe we’re working towards that.
“I believe that there’s time and we’re still in a position where we’re competing to stay in and I believe that by the end of May, we can be where we want to.”
