Los Angeles Clippers forward Nicolas Batum discussed the possibility of playing in the EuroLeague, shared his thoughts on Mathias Lessort's NBA potential, and gave his predictions for the EuroLeague Final Four.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Nicolas Batum recently sat down for an interview with Amerikanos 24, where he discussed his connection to the EuroLeague, Mathias Lessort’s potential in the NBA, and his predictions for the upcoming EuroLeague Final Four.
Batum revealed that he received multiple offers from EuroLeague teams but ultimately prioritized staying in the NBA, believing he is now too old for a return to Europe.
"A few," Batum said when asked how many offers he received. "My agent got calls last year too, with teams asking, ‘What is Niko going to do?’ But my goal was to stay in the NBA."
Despite ruling out a return for now, he still holds the competition in high regard.
"I’ve played in the EuroLeague, but that was early in my career. I enjoy watching it, and I’ve been part of it before. But I think I’m too old for that now," he admitted.
"That said, they’re building something special. The league’s popularity is growing, especially with Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. In Paris, we now have a EuroLeague team—Paris Basketball. Along with Fenerbahce, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, it’s an incredible competition. Even just watching it is amazing."
While Batum remains skeptical about a EuroLeague comeback, he hasn’t completely ruled it out.
"Playing again? I don’t think so, but it would be nice," he said.
Batum also shared his thoughts on Mathias Lessort’s ability to succeed in the NBA, stating that he would love to see him join the Clippers.
"Yes, I think he could," Batum said when asked if Lessort has what it takes to play in the NBA. "He can play pick-and-roll, hold his own in small-ball lineups, and keep up with the NBA’s fast pace. The tempo here is crazy right now, so I think he’s the perfect big man for that."

Batum compared Lessort’s skill set to that of Guerschon Yabusele and even suggested an ideal NBA fit.
"Look at Yabusele—he fits right in with that level of intensity. I think Lessort would be a great fit with the Sixers. But if Mathias decides to make the jump, he’ll definitely find his place. I’d love to have him on the Clippers."
Batum also weighed in on his predictions for the EuroLeague Final Four, believing we’ll see a new champion emerge.
"I’m picking both Greek teams. I think Fenerbahce should be there as well. And Monaco," he said.
When asked which team he believes will win it all, Batum had a clear answer:
"I’ve got Olympiacos winning it all."
