Celtic star Kasper Schmeichel names 'incredible man' as unsung hero of Leicester City's…

Leicester City shocked the footballing world when they won the Premier League title in 2015/16.

The story of the Foxes’ triumph that season is a remarkable one and will go down as perhaps the biggest shock in Premier League history.

Leicester City spent 2014/15 flirting with relegation, only to avoid the drop thanks to a superb run of form at the back end of the campaign under Nigel Pearson.

However, Pearson was then replaced by Claudio Ranieri in the King Power Stadium dugout, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Leicester ended 2014/15 in 14th place with just 41 points to their name – only one more than the required magic total of 40 that generally guarantees survival.

Yet in the following season they managed to nearly double that tally, notching 81 points and losing just three league games all campaign to finish 10 points clear of second place Arsenal and 11 above third-place Tottenham Hotspur.

Kasper Schmeichel was a key figure in their historic title run and has been discussing Leicester’s 2015/16 season this week.

However, while the aforementioned trio after often most associated with the success Leicester had that year, Schmeichel has now given a special mention to former coach and Ranieri’s assistant, Craig Shakespeare, for his role in Leicester winning the Premier League.

When speaking on The Overlap this week, he said: “I want to give Craig Shakespeare a shoutout for his responsibility in the Championship season, and Premier League season.

“Shakey was an incredible man and I’ve never seen a more respected man in football, or move loved man in football. Not only did he know his stuff, he was an incredibly good coach and very switched on tactically.

“He was one of those that never had any problem telling you if you weren’t doing it but also had this incredible human side to him. He was always between the players and the coach, whoever the coach was. He has a massive part of why Leicester became what they came.”
