The 26 footballers who have played for Newcastle United and Liverpool ahead of Carabao Cup final

The Carabao Cup final is quickly approaching but which players have played for both Newcastle United and Liverpool over the years?

Newcastle United are desperate to end their long 70-year wait for a trophy in March when they face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

The imperious Premier League leaders are the heavy favourites going into the match, especially after they cruised to victory against Newcastle in the league last month.

Things have gotten even worse for Newcastle in the weeks since as Anthony Gordon will miss the final with suspension after being sent off against Brighton while Alexander Isak, Lewis Hall and Kieran Trippier are all dealing with injuries.

Alexis Mac Allister’s admission that Liverpool are feeling tired and the fact they have to play three games before the final, while Newcastle have just one, does give Eddie Howe’s side some cause for optimism, though.

Players who have represented Newcastle and Liverpool

There is a lot of crossover between footballers who have played for both clubs, with some even managing to become legends at St. James’ Park and Anfield.

Newcastle hero Kevin Keegan is the most obvious example after playing 85 times in the North East following his legendary spell in Merseyside. He also went on to manage the Magpies twice.

Players who have played for Newcastle and Liverpool

Could Alexander Isak be the next player to move from Newcastle to Liverpool?

The biggest worry for Newcastle fans at the moment – outside of the upcoming final – is whether any of the club’s top stars could be sold in the summer.

Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and most importantly of all, Alexander Isak, continue to be linked with possible suitors ahead of the transfer window opening.

Newcastle’s strong financial performance over the last year, hopefully reduces any need to sell amid PSR rules but that doesn’t mean a big rival couldn’t tempt someone away.

Arsenal have long been linked with Isak but now Liverpool have emerged as a reportedly interested party as well.

Suggestions that Newcastle could swap Isak for Darwin Nunez have reportedly been dismissed by the club, yet the latest reports suggest Liverpool have already contacted Isak’s entourage ahead of an approach.

Newcastle are predictably desperate to keep hold of their star striker and have reportedly placed a £120m price tag on Isak’s head to ward off potential bidders.
