Nwaneri's City strike up for PL Goal of the Month

Ethan Nwaneri’s superb strike to wrap up our 5-1 win against Manchester City is a contender for the Premier League Goal of the Month for February.

Our 17-year-old netted our fifth of an unbelievable afternoon to help thrash the reigning champions on a day no-one inside Emirates Stadium will ever forget, and your votes can help him win the divisional award.

As time ticked away in north London against City, Ethan wanted to get in on the action and called for Declan Rice to swing a 50-yard crossfield pass his way, which our England international duly delivered. The teen then excellently controlled the ball and using a decoy overlap from Jurrien Timber, burst towards the area.

Having made space for himself, Ethan then whipped a brilliant left-footed shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner of the net, which City stopper Claudio Bravo just admired with no chance of saving it.

Ethan’s goal ended a passing sequence of 36 uninterrupted passes that lasted one minute and 54 seconds and involved all of our outfield players - the longest passing move leading to a Premier League goal since September 2023.

That is one of eight strikes up for the division's latest monthly award. Mohamed Salah’s goal against Bournemouth is one, as is James Tarkowski’s last-gasp equaliser against the Reds in the Merseyside derby.

Wolves’ Matheus Cunha’s dummy and shot against the leaders is also nominated, while Kaoru Mitoma’s excellent touch and finish for Brighton against Chelsea and Daniel Munoz’s counter-attacking strike in Crystal Palace’s win against Fulham are also recognised.

Dejan Kulusevski’s goal against Ipswich Town for Tottenham Hotspur and Justin Kluivert’s long-range effort for Bournemouth against Brighton round off the shortlist.
