Moyes will have to bust the bank to steal this Hammers favourite

Everyone has their price: be they Declan Rice or Mohammed Kudus, in football, everyone is for sale. If the price is right. Just ask Southampton who parted with their ‘not for sale’ talismanic captain James Ward Prowse 18 months ago for the astounding figure of £30 million to West Ham under David Moyes.

So whilst I am a huge Tomas Soucek fan – he embodies much of what it means to wear the West Ham shirt and has literally bled for the Hammers’ cause- at thirty years old, his time is drawing to a close at London Stadium.

Maybe two more years? So, if David Moyes decides to pursue his ‘Czech boys’ Coufal and Soucek, it is music to my ears to see West Ham’s stance on Soucek’s sale, as reported yesterday by Ex-whu employee via thewesthamway.com.

The Hammers are, apparently, keen to hang on to Soucek whilst Coufal will probably be allowed to leave at the end of this season when his contract expires. “We understand that David Moyes is keen to reunite with Tomas Soucek, with Everton weighing up a move,” stated Ex. “It’s an interesting one though as Soucek has performed well for Potter and is clearly still an important member of the squad. I don’t believe there is much appetite for the club to sell Soucek, so if Everton are serious, then a big offer will be needed for West Ham to even consider this.”

Are we talking James Ward-Prowse money again? Thirty million would be too good to refuse for a player at thirty years old who has been West Ham’s utility player, the willing warhorse for five seasons. But thirty million would buy a new defender and leave cash over towards finding the striker West Ham so definitely need.

Remember, too, with Freddie Potts and George Earthy returning from loan in June, Soucek’s likely replacement is already a West Ham player – at no cost -in the summer. Whilst I’d be sad to see Tornado Tom leave, an offer of this magnitude would surely lead to the Hammers ripping David Moyes’ hand off at the elbow.
