Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has revealed that he grew up watching Arsenal in the early 2000s, particularly admiring club legend Thierry Henry.

The Brazilian shot-stopper shared that during his teenage years, Arsenal were the only club regularly shown on live television in Brazil, making them a prominent part of his footballing upbringing.

Alisson made the revelation during a post-match interview with CBS after delivering a stunning performance in Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. The goalkeeper made nine crucial saves to secure the win, earning praise for his heroics.

During the interview, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards playfully quizzed Alisson on his favourite pundit from the panel, which included Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher. Attempting to showcase his Portuguese, Richards asked: “Have you seen our show, Alisson? Have you seen the clips online?”

After Alisson confirmed he had, Richards followed up: “Who’s your favorite pundit?”

To the surprise of the panel, Alisson responded: “Nice Portuguese, by the way. I think I would have to say Thierry [Henry], legend. When I was growing up, I watched a lot of Arsenal in the early 2000s when he was playing. It was the only team showing on TV in Brazil.”

His answer triggered a humorous reaction from Richards and Carragher, with the pair standing up and walking off set in mock outrage. Richards, laughing, could be heard saying, “I’ve had enough of this.”

Carragher, who had earlier labelled Liverpool’s win in Paris as “one of the biggest robberies in football,” was full of praise for Alisson’s performance. The former Reds defender acknowledged that the Brazilian’s heroics could provide the foundation for Liverpool to challenge for the Champions League title.

“Got away with it? That’s one of the biggest robberies you will ever see in football,” Carragher remarked. “I can’t believe what I’ve just seen. PSG were absolutely outstanding and battered Liverpool.”

He added: “If Liverpool go on to win this competition – which they have a good chance of, they’re a lot better than what we saw tonight – then that performance will be remembered for years to come.”
