Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window
During the summer of 2023, Liverpool focused on rebuilding their midfield unit. Last summer, the emphasis was helping Arne Slot settle down after he replaced Jurgen Klopp.
Arne Slot could not make much changes to his squad in the last two transfer windows, and despite that, his Liverpool team have dominated the Premier League this season. Come summer, though, it looks like there will be an overhaul in the attacking department at Anfield.
Aside from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, the Dutch tactician does not have reliable options in attack at his disposal. Luis Diaz has been inconsistent since arriving from FC Porto a couple of years ago, while Diogo Jota simply cannot stay fit.

Darwin Nunez’s struggles in front of goal have been well-documented. He is not the kind of striker that fits into Slot’s system, with transfer news king Fabrizio Romano revealing on X earlier this month that there is a strong chance the Uruguayan departs Anfield at the end of the season amid Saudi Arabia interest.
And then there is Salah, who is heading for his second Premier League winners’ medals, but also the exit door. The Egyptian superstar is out of contract at the end of June and does not look like extending his stay at the club. Now, the club are seemingly planning for reinforcements when the transfer window reopens.
According to a report from TBR Football, Liverpool are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. The Merseysiders have been impressed with his performances this season, although they could face competition from Newcastle United.
Since joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain, Hugo Ekitike has flourished, registering 18 goals and six assists in 34 appearances this season. The Frenchman has been enjoying by far his best scoring season to date—with 13 out of 18 coming in the Bundesliga. As a result, he is now a wanted man in Europe.

Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Newcastle United star Alexander Isak
Reliable Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed on X that Frankfurt are preparing for Ekitike’s departure after just one season. CEO Markus Krösche values the young striker in the region of €80m, with the player under contract until 2029.
Ekitike has been a consistent goalscorer for the Bundesliga side, thereby, managing to put his poor stint with PSG behind. The France under-21 international has the qualities to thrive in the fast-paced and physical nature of Premier League football, complementing the likes of Diaz and Gakpo in Slot’s attack.

The Reims-born talent could be a smart potential alternative for Alexander Isak should the Newcastle United star prove unattainable, particularly due to their similar skill set and burst of acceleration despite lanky frames. Liverpool are certainly ready to spend big in the summer, though whether they are willing to splash around €80m on a relatively unproven player at the highest level in Ekitike remains to be seen.
