Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Everton ended with a highly controversial VAR call.
Ruben Amorim’s unique team talk had sparked a Manchester United comeback at Goodison Park after his side found themselves 2-0 down at half-time.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte drew the Red Devils level, and they went hunting for a winner late on. However, it looked as though Everton would have a golden opportunity to snatch all three points when referee Andy Madley pointed to the penalty spot.
David Moyes and Ruben Amorim disagreed on the penalty decision, while Harry Maguire and Ashley Young clashed in the tunnel after both being involved in the incident.
The penalty was eventually overturned by VAR, which caused plenty of controversy. Alan Shearer called it “mind-boggling”, while Ben Foster called for a rule change.

Premier League panel votes on Man United vs Everton penalty
The storyline that emerged from Goodison Park after the draw was that United were lucky and let off the hook by VAR.
Shearer and Gary Lineker raged at VAR, insisting that it was not a “clear and obvious” error made by Madley.
However, it seems the Premier League Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel couldn’t disagree more with what pundits were saying.

As reported by ESPN, the panel unanimously voted 5-0 that Madley was incorrect to award a penalty to Everton.
They then voted 4-1 that VAR made the right decision to step in and overturn the penalty decision.
Comments from the panel on the incident included this: “the contact from the defenders doesn’t match the exaggerated fall from the attacker.”
It seems Ashley Young’s tendency to dive caught up to him. But VAR ultimately made the right call.
VAR has usually gone against Man United this season
The list of worst VAR decisions against United this season is nothing short of shocking.
The stats back up the fact that United have had more VAR decisions go against them than for them this season.
As recorded by ESPN, only four top-flight teams have had fewer favourable VAR decisions than United this season.
United are yet to have a single VAR decision award them a penalty this season, while two penalty decisions have gone against them.

It involves Rasmus Hojlund being denied a penalty against Manchester City this season, while VAR also intervened for Patrick Dorgu’s red card against Ipswich Town.
However, Amorim admitted United were lucky against Leicester Town when Harry Maguire’s winner was allowed to stand due to no VAR being available in the cup.
