Pep Guardiola reportedly wants Manchester City to sign 23-year-old English utility man Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Jacob Ramsey is the subject of interest from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is driving the Premier League champions’ move for the Aston Villa star. In addition, the 23-year-old is a target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window, with the West Midlands outfit demanding £50 million to part ways with him.
The rise of Jacob Ramsey at Aston Villa
Jacob Ramsey has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since breaking into the first-team squad at Aston Villa. A native of Birmingham, the Englishman spent his formative years in his homeland. He joined the Villans as a six-year-old in 2007 before rising through the ranks at the West Midlands club and graduating from the youth setup over a decade later.
Ramsey broke into the first-team squad at Aston Villa as a 17-year-old in February 2019. However, the 23-year-old had to wait until the 2020/21 season to enjoy his breakthrough at Villa Park. Since then, the youngster has been a regular for Aston Villa, even though he has not been an undisputed first-choice starter.
The English utility man, who can play as a box-to-box midfielder and a winger, has turned out over 150 times thus far for Aston Villa while chipping in with 16 goals and 16 assists. Meanwhile, Ramsey’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League bigwigs. Chelsea and Manchester City will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Chelsea wanted to sign Jacob Ramsey last summer before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest is understandable, considering Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, and Noni Madueke have blown hot and cold in the 2024/25 season. In addition, Mykhailo Mudryk’s long-term future is uncertain after failing a doping test. So, the Aston Villa prospect is a viable target for Chelsea.
As for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola wants the Premier League champions to reinforce the midfield and offensive units in the summer transfer window. With widespread reports linking Jack Grealish with a summer departure, Ramsey is an option worth considering for Manchester City due to his versatility.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa will demand around £50 million to part ways with Ramsey. Chelsea and Manchester City should have the funds to afford a deal worth £50 million to land the 23-year-old Englishman. However, other Premier League bigwigs are also keen on signing the Aston Villa star in the summer transfer window.
