Retired Italy and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon sent his congratulations to a group of Maltese carnival enthusiasts after he was one of a number of well-known Italian celebrities to feature on a carnival float.
The float was the brainchild of Triton Carnival Company and wowed crowds in Valletta over the course of last weekend’s Carnival festivities.
Buffon, a FIFA World Cup winner and Juventus legend, was one of several well-known Italian faces to feature on Triton’s carnival float which was themed as ‘Una Notte Con le Stelle.’
He was joined on the float by characters such as the late tenor Luciano Pavarotti, Bud Spencer, Albano Carrisi, Silvio Berlusconi, and Romina Power.
“It has been a real honour to be part of this extraordinary carnival float, designed by Triton Carnival Company of Malta,” Buffon wrote on his Facebook page, which has over 12 million followers.
“Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of receiving constant videos and photos documenting its creation, and I want to express my sincere congratulations for the magnificent work that has been done. I also heard that the float won the parade, so my congratulations are doubled!”
Buffon also sent the carnival company a personalised message prior to the weekend’s festivities, as did singer Albano.
