Ben Doak has undergone surgery and has returned to Liverpool for rehabilitation - but could yet featured again this season on loan at Middlesbrough. Doak is spending the campaign at the Championship side and was a regular before suffering an injury that has ruled him out since the end of January.
With the problem having shown no signs of significant improvement, the 19-year-old winger has now had an operation to repair the damage that will sideline him for the foreseeable future.
And Boro boss Michael Carrick has confirmed Doak is back at the AXA Training Centre to work on his recovery.

"He's back at Liverpool doing a bit of rehab now," said Carrick, speaking on Thursday afternoon. "When it gets to that stage, it can be normal for that to happen and we've had it before with (loan) players.
"We will see how that goes and how long he's going to be out for. It's not a new issue. Liverpool will look after his rehab initially and we will see how that goes and progresses from there. Will he play again this season? It's hard to say either way.
"(The setback) happened quite recently, to be honest. He was doing his rehab and then it came about. It's unfortunate for us as a squad and for Ben individually to suffer that. Nobody wants to be injured but it is part of the game. But he'll be back stronger."
Doak has scored three goals and provided seven assists for Middlesbrough in the Championship this season. In his absence, Boro have lost four of six games and dropped from fifth to 11th in the table.
