Tyler Lockett delivers an emotional message to Seahawks fans after getting released

It has already been a busy week for the NFL just a few days before free agency begins, and the Seattle Seahawks have been front and center for a couple of big stories already.

On Wednesday, the Seahawks made headlines thanks to a pair of veteran receivers.

DK Metcalf formally requested a trade, so he could be on his way out in the near future. In addition, the Seahawks informed Tyler Lockett he would be released after 10 seasons in Seattle.

After the news of Lockett's release broke, the fan favorite took to social media to express his gratitude.

I really enjoyed being in Seattle! I met so many great people and captured so many great memories! The 12’s really make this place meaningful! Although, my time on the Seahawks may have run its course I’m thankful for everything!!God gets all the glory forever!!!! pic.twitter.com/cywZBDhOVR

The former third-round pick out of Kansas State sits number two on the Seahawks' all-time receiving list behind Steve Largent, with 8,594 career receiving yards. He caught 61 touchdowns with the Seahawks, as well, and earned one Pro Bowl.

As one of the more consistently underrated wide receivers in the league, Lockett should have no problem finding a job going forward.

Tyler Lockett will have options in NFL free agency after wave of latest news

As Lockett starts his free agency journey, he should definitely have a market. We just saw the Cincinnati Bengals use the franchise tag on Tee Higgins for the second-straight year.

In addition, it looks like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to try hard to work out a deal to keep Chris Godwin around. If that happens, then the top two free agent wideouts are immediately off the market, barring a tag-and-trade situation with Higgins.

So, for Lockett, he should have his fair share of contenders looking to add a savvy veteran. Teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers and maybe even the Detroit Lions could swoop in and make him a nice offer.

As for Metcalf, we'll have to wait and see what the Seahawks decide to do in regards to his trade request. That's an entirely different story altogether.

But, for Lockett, Seahawks fans can only hope for the best. If not the Seahawks hoisting another Lombardi Trophy, I'm sure the 12th Man would love to see Lockett get another.
