Arsenal and Chelsea in four-way scrap for striker with £83.8m release clause

Arsenal and Chelsea are two of four Premier League teams keeping a close eye on FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports in Portugal.

The 20-year-old only joined Porto from Atletico Madrid back in the summer but has impressed with his performances so far this season. In 32 appearances in all competitions, he’s scored 20 goals and provided three assists.

His latest goal came in the 2-0 league win over Arouca over the weekend. The goal was his first in the league since December, ending a run of six goalless games.

It seems that his performances have not gone unnoticed in england. According to Portuguese outlet A Bola , via SportWitness , Arsenal and Chelsea are joined by Aston Villa and West Ham in showing interest in the Spain international.

It has previously been claimed that the player has a €100 million (£83.8m) release clause in his contract. Teams will, however, hope to get him for a fee cheaper than that.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are expected to be on the lookout for a new striker in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Gunners will be without a recognised natural centre-forward for the remainder of the campaign due to injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Chelsea, meanwhile have just Christopher Nkunku available with Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and David Datro Fofana all injured. Jackson is not expected to return until after the March international break .

The summer transfer window will give the two sides a chance to add to their striking options ahead of the new season. Both Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca will look to add players to avoid being in a similar situation this time next season.
