Manchester United’s summer transfer plans are already in motion, with Geovany Quenda emerging as a top target.

Even before Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, there were strong links to Sporting Lisbon players.

Those links have only intensified since his appointment, with Quenda now seen as a serious candidate to join United this summer.

United are advancing in talks to sign the 18-year-old, with INEOS considering a bid in the region of £33 million.

However, with finances expected to be stretched this summer, the club may be forced to look at alternatives.

Manchester United identify Roger Fernandes as Geovany Quenda alternative

United want a deal for Quenda completed before the transfer window opens, but nothing is set in stone.

As a result, the club is assessing other options should an agreement with Sporting fail to materialise.

One player who has caught their attention is Braga’s Roger Fernandes.

The Red Devils are believed to be considering Fernandes, as per Graeme Bailey for United in Focus.

The teenager, who was born in Guinea-Bissau, made his first-team debut at just 15 years old.

His rapid development has seen him become one of Portugal’s most exciting young prospects.

Carlos Carvalhal, who handed Fernandes his debut, previously described the moment as “special” in an interview with Sky Sports.

Fernandes shares many similarities with Quenda, which explains United’s interest.

Like Quenda, he is a left-footed right wing-back who thrives in attacking situations.

His versatility is another major asset, having played as a full-back, wing-back, winger, and forward this season for Braga.

Despite being only 19, Fernandes is quietly regarded as a superior player to Quenda at this stage.

His current contract runs until 2028, with a €40 million (£33 million) release clause.

However, United would likely be able to negotiate a lower fee in line with their recruitment strategy.

Quenda remains United’s first-choice target, but Fernandes represents an exciting alternative.

He may not be Amorim’s top pick, but his ability and potential make him a player the United boss would still be delighted to work with.
