Leeds United keen on 22-year-old as potential Junior Firpo replacement

Leeds United are tracking Wolves left-back Hugo Bueno ahead of a potential move this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

Leeds United are the pacesetters in the Championship right now and have amassed a five-point gap to 3rd placed Burnley. LUFC have been very impressive this season and have picked up some massive results recently.

Amongst all the star attackers the Whites have, one of the standout performers has been Junior Firpo. Only Mo Salah has more assists than Firpo in 2025 and he has also scored two very important goals recently, equalising against both Sheffield United and West Brom.

However, despite his form, Leeds United are planning for a future without Firpo, who is out of contract this summer.

According to TEAMtalk, LUFC are tracking Wolves left-back Hugo Bueno as a potential replacement. Bueno has spent this season on loan with Dutch side Feyenoord and is currently coached by Robin Van Persie.

The Whites could face competition from Nottingham Forest for his signature this summer. Given that Forest could potentially offer Champions League football, they could struggle to compete, but Leeds will offer him a better chance of game time.

Firpo’s Premier League struggles

Firpo has been a quality player in the Championship, picking up 16 assists over the past two seasons.

However, in the Premier League, he failed to have the same impact. Given he is a very attacking full-back, he is likely to struggle defensively as he did during Leeds United’s last Premier League stay, which ultimately ended in relegation.

With his previous top-flight struggles and expiring contract in mind, it’s perhaps not surprising that LUFC are eyeing a new player at left-back going into next season.

Impressing in Europe

Bueno has had a good time over in Holland, picking up three assists in 14 Eredivisie games. In addition to that league form though, he has also had plenty of Champions League experience.

He has featured in eight games in the Champions League this year with Feyenoord still in the competition. The Wolves loanee played the full 90 minutes in their 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan on Wednesday and even got the assist for the goal that beat AC Milan in the last round.

LUFC will be pulling off quite the coup if they can secure Bueno’s signature. Importantly for fans, it is good to see the club planning for the club’s long-term future with promotion looking likely.
