Aston Villa have handed a new long-term contract to youngster Ben Broggio.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed something of a breakthrough this season having made his first team debut in the Carabao Cup win at Wycombe in September. He was also an unused substitute for the Premier League draw with Crystal Palace in November. He has also made three appearances for England Under-18s.

Villa confirmed the news with a statement on their website which read: “Broggio has been a consistent performer for the Under-21s across Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy and the UEFA Youth League this season, earning him international recognition with England Under-18s.

“Academy Manager Mark Harrison is happy to see Broggio commit his future to the club.

“’We are delighted that Ben has signed a new long-term contract, this is a recognition of his continued development over the last year and also the potential he has shown.

“’He has performed well in a number of games this season as an attacking midfielder, which has also meant some involvement with the first team.

"’As somebody who has been at the Academy since his Under-9 year, we look forward to seeing how he develops over the coming seasons.’"

He was linked with a move to Chelsea earlier this year.
