NBA insider fuels rumors Minnesota Timberwolves will target specific legend to pair with…

A top NBA insider fanned the rumor flames on Thursday with a bold claim that the Minnesota Timberwolves will target a huge trade this summer for a specific future Hall-of-Famer.

The 2024-25 Timberwolves campaign has not been what the organization hoped for. After taking a big step forward the last two seasons, and being an elite squad in the West in 2023-24, the team has regressed this year. Without a doubt, trading Karl-Anthony Towns has had a huge effect. Since the return players in the deal — Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo– have disappointed in their debut season in Minnesota.

Heading into the weekend, the Wolves sit in the seventh spot in the conference. While they are in striking distance of avoiding the play-in tournament, they are also a losing skid away from being in serious danger of missing the playoffs entirely. At this point, there is no doubt Minnesota won’t be competing for an NBA title in 2025. That is why there has been a lot of speculation about what they might do in the offseason to improve an underwhelming roster.

Well, on Thursday ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst suggested one specific future Hall-of-Famer will be at the top of the team’s summer wishlist.

Minnesota Timberwolves expected to make hard push for Kevin Durant this summer

“Another small market team to watch: Minnesota Timberwolves,” Windhorst said during an appearance on “Get Up.” “Ant Edward and KD have a tight connection from the Olympics. The Timberwolves tried to pull off a crazy trade at the deadline for Kevin Durant. Look for them to revisit those talks this summer.”

After the NBA trade deadline dust settled and Durant passed on a nearly complete trade to the Golden State Warriors, it was revealed that the ‘Wolves also looked into a trade for the 15-time All-Star. The team will still be cash strapped next season and will need to move some big pieces to acquire a player like Durant.

Kevin Durant stats (2024-25): 26.9 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.3 BPG, 40% 3PT

However, with the Phoenix Suns mired in a miserable season, they will be desperate to blow things up and get better pieces around Devin Booker. Players like Randle and DiVincenzo — along with premium draft picks– could fit that bill this summer.
