'Almost certain': Liam Keen makes worrying suggestion about Matheus Cunha's potential ban for…

Wolves fans are patiently waiting for news about Matheus Cunha, after the Brazilian was sent off against Bournemouth last weekend.

The Brazilian was dismissed after a scuffle with Milos Kerkez at the end of extra-time of the FA Cup match at the Vitality Stadium.

Cunha then refused to leave as his emotions consumed him.

The red card means Cunha will definitely miss Wolves’ next three games against Everton, Southampton and West Ham United.

It had been suggested Cunha’s previous ban wouldn’t be a factor in his latest punishment.

That may be so, but Cunha’s actions were still very poor and a lengthy ban may well await, with journalists Nathan Judah and Liam Keen discussing the situation on the latest E&S podcast.

Cunha has been charged with improper conduct by the FA, on top of the red card he got for fighting with Kerkez.

Today on the E&S podcast, journalists Nathan Judah and Liam Keen spoke about Cunha and the potential ban he could be hit with.

Judah said: “Remember, he’s already been banned for two games this season for similar issues. Three games, reduced to two.

“I think, and I think you think Liam, you’ve got to look at a worst-case scenario here and for me, this is what’s going to happen, and anything else would be a bonus. I think Cunha is going to get a six-game ban here, or three and three.”

Keen said: “I don’t think it’d be any more than that (six). I’d be surprised if it was any more than six. But you’re probably right.

“They’re not going to be as fortunate this time (as after Cunha’s latest FA ban after Ipswich). The red card means straight away, an initial three-game ban. 100% he’ll be missing those three (vs Everton, Southampton and West Ham).

“Now the charge from the FA on top of that is for his conduct after the red card.

“This time, he’s not a first-time offender, I’d imagine the mitigating factors will be few and far between. It’s going to be three, which will be on top of the three he’s already got, making six games.

“It’s important to note that we don’t know, we weren’t there, for what happened as he went down the tunnel. His interactions with any officials or staff members. Whatever his behaviour was, whether it was worse or better than we think, could impact the ban as well. It could end up being more than six, or less than six. I don’t think more than six is very likely, that will probably be the max.

“Either way, it’s going to be more than three, that’s almost certain. Regardless of whether it’s four or six, he’s missing Ipswich. If he gets a ban on top of the red card… with a charge it’s going to be very, very likely. Then that can only be an absolute disaster.”

Cunha has let Wolves down

Yes, he has pretty much carried Wolves at times this season and yes, he is also a top human being.

But there can be no doubt that Cunha has left Wolves in the lurch with his antics last weekend.

For this to have happened twice now is really disappointing, and Vitor Pereira must be fuming behind the scenes.

Other Wolves players now need to step up in Cunha’s absence, and Wolves’ fight against relegation is about to become even more intense.
