Rams Pull Off Major Trade For Matthew Stafford’s Future Replacement in Latest NFL Mock Draft

As free agency unofficially begins-with extensions, releases, and trades marking the lead-up to the new league season-teams like the Los Angeles Rams are beginning to reshape their rosters. The coming weeks, leading up to the NFL Draft in April, promise to be filled with significant moves.

So far this offseason, the Rams have extended quarterback Matthew Stafford for two more years, traded Jonah Jackson to the Bears, and faced ongoing rumors surrounding the future of Cooper Kupp.

Athlon Sports recently released a 4-round NFL mock draft, courtesy of draft expert Luke Easterling. This mock features numerous trades and moving pieces, including a pivotal trade for the Rams. This trade signals preparation for life after Stafford, as the Rams select Ole Miss sensation, Jaxson Dart.

In the proposed deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Rams receive the 36th and 88th overall picks in exchange for their 26th pick. This strategic move not only nets the Rams a much-needed third-round selection but also allows them to draft Dart early in the second round.

Dart offers significant potential as Stafford's backup, giving him time to develop as the Rams' future quarterback. In the third round, the Rams also select Texas Longhorn tight end Gunnar Helm at pick 88.

Although Helm's draft stock has been inconsistent-exacerbated by his injury during the 40-yard dash-this could position the Rams to secure a late-round steal.

Easterling concludes the final two rounds with three key additions: offensive lineman Wyatt Milum (90), linebacker Barrett Carter (100, projected compensatory pick), and defensive back Upton Stout (126). These selections round out the early-round draft class with much-needed depth across key positions.

As free agency officially begins in the coming days, greater clarity on situations surrounding Cooper Kupp's future and the free agent market will help shape the Rams' draft strategy.

The NFL draft begins April 24th in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
