Broncos Benefit After Chargers Release Star Pass Rusher

The Denver Broncos received good news on Wednesday night regarding free agency, and it's twofold.

AFC West divisional rival Los Angeles Chargers released star defensive end Joey Bosa on Wednesday to save $25.36 million against the salary cap, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This means the Broncos won't have to contend with Bosa when facing the Chargers twice a season in the future, and the Broncos could also make a free-agent pitch to the five-time Pro Bowler.

Bosa has been one of the best defensive ends in the league since the Chargers selected him with the third overall pick in 2016. He has 72 sacks, 343 tackles, 17 forced fumbles, and 156 quarterback hits in his career.

Despite Bosa's prowess, the Broncos could land him on an inexpensive deal. His recent injury history has limited him to only 28 games since the 2022 season, which arguably played a role in the Chargers deciding not to keep him onboard amid his two-year, $40.36 million deal.

Denver has $40.99 million in salary cap space and could justify bringing Bosa in on a prove-it type deal. That would only bolster a dangerous Broncos defensive front that produced 63 sacks in 2024.
