Villa News Speaking to Martin Allen

Unai Emery is seemingly feeling the pressure at Aston Villa after hitting breaking point against Club Brugge on Tuesday.

The Villans travelled to Belgium on 4 March and came away with a 3-1 win in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.

An early strike from Leon Bailey was added to by a Brandon Mechele own goal and a Marco Asensio penalty, meaning a two goal advantage is awaiting Villa in B6.

Despite a positive result against the Pro League side, Emery was clearly raging during the game, which isn’t a positive sign at Villa Park.

Emery showed visual frustration v Club Brugge

It is fair to say that Villa haven’t been performing at their best level in recent weeks.

The 4-1 defeat against Crystal Palace was enough to tip many supporters over the edge in a result which could have a damaging impact on their final Premier League position.

With that being said, the Villans have managed to secure positive results since with back-to-back wins against Cardiff City and Club Brugge.

Despite that, Emery is clearly not completely happy as the Spaniard was given a booking against the Belgian side and was visibly raging.

This was disappointing to see for former Brentford manager Martin Allen who believes the 53-year-old is feeling pressure at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Allen said: “It’s not good that he’s done that, it’s not a good standard to set.

“He’s one of the top managers in the Premier League and he’ll be disappointed with what he’s done.

“At this time of the year, with the Champions League and Premier League, there’s a lot of pressure on Emery so at times it will be difficult to hold that in.

“It would be a good idea, among staff, the managers had a word to make sure they don’t get so wound up.

“*He’ll regret it now because he wants to keep up that high standard.*“

Emery will work through Aston Villa troubles

It is safe to say that Emery has extremely high standards for his players and as a result, a mid-table Premier League finish won’t go down well.

The positivity surrounding the FA Cup and Champions League has somewhat papered over the cracks over some frustrating performances on the whole.

The addition of winter signings like Marcus Rashford and Asensio have helped to secure wins where defeats may have been on the way.

This was certainly the case against Chelsea but against Brugge, the Spaniard proved his tactical nous with his substitutions which ultimately secured the win on the continent.

Emery is the perfect manager for the B6 club and regardless of the pressure he may be facing, the Villa faithful will always back him and that will spur his side on moving forward.
