Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has insisted that Ruben Amorim is not currently at risk of losing his job at Old Trafford despite a difficult start to his tenure.

Amorim joined United in mid-November and since then the club have continued to languish in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Hopes of qualifying for Europe through the domestic league look to be long gone and having been knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend, the Europa League is their final hope of success this season.

Due to his poor start, there have already been some suggestions that Amorim is under pressure to keep his job at United should things not drastically improve. But, speaking on TNT Sports, Scholes insisted that the Portuguese will be given three or four transfer windows before being properly judged by Ineos.

"I don’t think there is much pressure on him yet," Scholes explained. "I think he is alright, he is going to get plenty of time now.

"He needs to change this club around, he has not really signed a player yet other than [Patrick] Dorgu who I think has been alright when he comes in, but there are a lot of areas of the team he needs to improve. I think they need to give him three or four windows and it is going to take a lot of time to get this club right and back to where it should be going.

"I think they have to [stick with him] now, where else do they go? He is a really young and bright manager, I think he speaks well and he did a magnificent job at Sporting Lisbon, as we all know.

"There is so much going on for him in the background which can’t be helpful and it can’t be helpful to the team so that must have some kind of affect on them. Let’s give him time, get behind him and hopefully he will build a team that will take us forward."
