As devastated as Newcastle United fans were yesterday over the news that Lewis Hall's season has come to an early end, we're sure that even our collective grief pales in comparison to that of the player himself.
Lewis Hall was Newcastle's in-form player over the past few fixtures. Where most around him struggled to hit their best levels, Hall was consistently good.
There's never a good time to lose a player like Hall, but the timing of this injury is obviously extra frustrating with the Carabao Cup final so soon and the fight for Champions League football really hotting up.
Lewis Hall will undergo surgery on a foot issue as advised by a specialist after it was made clear that playing on through the pain for the remainder of the season would likely have made things worse.

Lewis Hall will now have to wait for that call from Thomas Tuchel for England
Lewis Hall has spoken to the official Newcastle United website
Eddie Howe has addressed the issue already, but now Lewis Hall has spoken up himself via the official website.
“It’s quite hard to accept at the minute, but I’m still young and there are many opportunities ahead, I’m very confident in that.
“I haven’t had it before in my career, but watching us train every day and watching the team play is something that I’m really not looking forward to, but I’ve got so much faith in the boys to get us over the line and do what we need to do.
“It’s gutting, especially with the games coming up. There’s so much to play for until the end of the season and I was looking forward to them so much, so it’s devastating, not just for me but being able to help the team. I feel like my season’s gone well and it’s come at probably the worst time.
“I would want to continue playing but we had to look at my career and agree on what was best. If I was to play through the pain, things could have got worse which would have a negative impact on my career long-term.”

We're bracing ourselves for the ultimate Matt Targett redemption story
We could now be looking at the ultimate Matt Targett redemption arc as the former Aston Villa man is the obvious choice to replace Hall.
Jamal Lewis must be cursing his luck after being included in the squad but also being injured. It could have been his time to shine.
Matt Targett has shown some good moments in his brief cameos recently, although his crossing needs working on after hitting the first man with every attempt against Brighton at the weekend.
