Evan Ferguson twist leads West Ham to major U-turn with Jonathan David the final destination

West Ham United are said to be eyeing summer transfers for Evan Ferguson and Jonathan David.

Evan Ferguson joined West Ham on loan in the January window, whilst soon-to-be free agent Jonathan David is firmly on the Hammers’ radar.

West Ham’s chances of signing Evan Ferguson are far from guaranteed, after the club failed to include an option or an obligation to buy into the deal.

Meanwhile, Jonathan David has emerged as a transfer target for West Ham, ahead of the summer window.

Whatever happens this summer, Graham Potter absolutely has to bring an elite striker to the London Stadium.

Whether Ferguson remains with West Ham beyond the end of this season remains to be seen.

As things stand though, the Hammers signing David may well be more likely than the 20-year-old joining us on a permanent deal.

Evan Ferguson twist could lead West Ham to Jonathan David

David will be a free agent this summer.

Given his unbelievable quality, it’s no surprise that many top clubs are chasing his signature.

However, if the Hammers are to make some real progress under Potter, the owners need to push the boat out for players like the Canada international.

According to The Guardian, West Ham are keeping a very close eye on Jonathan David’s situation.

That’s because the Hammers are said to be growing increasingly less confident by the day of signing Evan Ferguson permanently in the summer.

Missing out on Ferguson and signing David instead would be the most beautiful of twists for West Ham.

The massive mistake Graham Potter has made with Evan Ferguson

Potter has got it all wrong since bringing the Republic of Ireland international to the London Stadium on deadline day.

The Hammers only have 11 matches remaining, and Ferguson has played just three games for a total of 70 minutes football – all substitute appearances.

One thing’s for sure, players are never going to get up to speed by being given the odd 10 or 20 minute cameo here and there.

It’s just so hard to get involved in the game when you come on, especially in the Premier League what with its intensity and frenetic speed.

Strikers thrive on stats, and in the modern day, managers generally start their new forward signings as soon as they’re brought in.

Potter should have started the Brighton owned striker in every game, and taken him off after 60 minutes if he was struggling.

Evan Ferguson now faces a real challenge if he is to succeed at West Ham but if he fails, the end result could be Jonathan David coming into the club instead of the Irishman in the summer.

And in my opinion, that would be very good news indeed for us. So Graham Potter’s poor handling of Ferguson may well end up be a huge blessing in disguise for the Hammers.
