USC Trojans legend Amon-Ra St. Brown joined the flurry of reactions for the blockbuster Deebo Samuel trade. The Detroit Lions Pro Bowl wide receiver watched the San Francisco 49ers deal him away back on Saturday.
The former Trojan dropped a strong take for both sides during his latest St. Brown Brothers podcast released Wednesday evening.
"We knew that he was going to be gone. But the Commanders, I think for him, is a great fit," St. Brown began. "They got some weapons."
St. Brown named off Terry McLaurin, Jayden Daniels, Austin Ekeler as among the three new teammates surrounding Samuel. The Lions star added "I think Deebo is in a great situation."
However, St. Brown delivered a blunt take for the 49ers' side.
"For the Niners, it might hurt them losing someone like Deebo," St. Brown explained. "Obviously you have to pay him and things like that. But the 49ers for sure are going to miss Deebo."
San Francisco gained a fifth round selection in exchange for Samuel. The 49ers have drafted fifth round gems before -- a la George Kittle, Talanoa Hufanga, plus Deommodore Lenoir.
But the 49ers are sending away their 2021 All-Pro. Plus a versatile wide receiver who plowed through defensive linemen and linebackers as a running back. Furthermore, Samuel helped get the Niners to the Super Bowl twice between 2019 and 2023.
St. Brown and the Lions will meet up with Samuel in 2025. The NFC runner-up Commanders are on Detroit's schedule for the upcoming season, which will be a rematch of the Lions' stunning loss in the NFC Divisional round. St. Brown and his team will be the designated visitors for that contest.
