Former Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood appears to have secured a reunion with one of his old coaches at Old Trafford.

Greenwood left United permanently for Marseille in the summer after matters off the pitch led to the Reds parting ways with the forward. Since moving to the French club, the 23-year-old has rediscovered his form.

In 26 appearances he has scored 16 goals which has led some to suggest that he could be in line for an England call-up. Greenwood has earned just one cap for the England national team but was not considered for selection by previous manager Gareth Southgate.

Southgate left the FA in the summer following the Euro 2024 defeat to Spain and Thomas Tuchel has since taken over as manager. However, the FA's chief executive Mark Bullingham has now insisted that Greenwood is not under consideration for the Three Lions.

“That’s happened formally, so he wouldn’t be able to (play for England) because you can only switch once,” Bullingham said.

“We actually didn’t have that communication. I know people asked Gareth about him, and Gareth was up front in that he hadn’t been in his thinking, because he hadn’t been performing at that level, so I’m not aware of any communication we had with him.

“I don’t think there was ever a request or anything like that. It just wasn’t one we got to, so it’s a personal decision by him.”

While Bullingham did not name the country that Greenwood has asked to switch to, it is understood to be Jamaica who are currently managed by former United assistant manager Steve McClaren. The pair were briefly at United together following McClaren's arrival at Old Trafford in 2022.

The former England boss left Erik ten Hag's backroom staff in the summer to take up the opportunity with Jamaica. Since moving to the Caribbean, McClaren has won three of his first eight games in charge and has only suffered defeat on two occasions both in matches against the USA.
