Liverpool will reportedly only make a move for Newcastle United's Alexander Isak if the striker becomes available. Arne Slot's team have been one of several clubs linked with the Swedish forward, who has emerged as one of the world's best No.9s in recent seasons.
Isak has scored 22 goals across all competitions for the Magpies so far this season, with his performances playing a key role in helping Newcastle reach the Carabao Cup final and push for a top four finish.
And recent reports have claimed that there is interest from Merseyside in the Sweden international. It is said that potential rivals for his signature, Arsenal, would be forced to sell as many as two stars to help finance a move for the attacker, making it easier for the Reds to steal a march in the race to sign him.
Journalist David Ornstein has now reported that there are multiple options Liverpool are looking at this summer, but that Isak is a particular player they are interested in.
“They will obviously have multiple options on their radar but the only name I’ve personally heard of so far – which others have already reported – is Alexander Isak," he said in a Q&A for The Athletic.
“Liverpool aren’t alone in liking the Swede – we know Mikel Arteta wants to sign him, Chelsea and Barcelona have been also been linked and I’m sure many other sides would be keen, too, if the opportunity arose. But that’s a big ‘if’. Newcastle have no intention of selling their best player and, understandably, don’t welcome this kind of conversation.”
He added: “Liverpool are only going to consider making a move if Isak is genuinely available; they’re not the type of club to engage in a wild goose chase.”
