Manchester City are interested in acquiring the services of Lucas Chevalier as they prepare for life without Ederson.
Manchester City are expected to undergo major changes ahead of next season. After a campaign where they have been far from their usual standards, Pep Guardiola is keen on reinforcing his squad, and the club are already working to sign a number of players.
While they will be looking to add more quality all across the pitch, City seem set to prioritise the signing of a world class goalkeeper as Ederson’s long-term future is uncertain. According to a report from TBR, Guardiola’s team are keen on signing Lucas Chevalier, who has been a consistent performer for LOSC Lille.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper has come up the ranks at the French club. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2020 and hasn’t looked back since. Following a loan spell at Valenciennes FC during the 2021/22 season, he has established himself as one of the mainstays at Lille.
Manchester City’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper
His consistent performances, along with his massive potential, have put him on the radar of Manchester City. While his contract at Lille runs until the summer of 2027, Guardiola’s team could push to sign him next summer as Ederson’s future is up in the air.
The Brazilian goalkeeper will only have 12 months left on his deal next summer. While a new deal hasn’t been ruled and talks have taken place, there is still a high possibility that he could choose to walk away. Ederson was open to a move to Saudi Arabia last summer, and he still remains open to a move to the Middle East.
While the Manchester-based giants haven’t ruled out the possibility of promoting Stefan Ortega as their number one following Ederson’s departure, they are actively looking for a goalkeeper who can replace the former Benfica star.
City scouts have been actively following quite a few top goalkeepers from across Europe, and Chevalier is one of them. He has impressed them so far, and they are certainly considering making a move for him.
