Chelsea have been in Europa Conference League action

Chelsea won 2-1 away at FC Copenhagen in their Europa Conference League first leg clash on Thursday night. Reece James and Enzo Fernandez were on the scoresheet for the Blues in the Danish capital, whilst Gabriel Pereira struck for the hosts.

Enzo Maresca’s side leave Scandinavia in the lead heading into the second leg. They led 2-0 at the Parken Stadium before letting their opponents pull a goal back.

The visitors had 64% possession and had five shots, two of which were on target. They also gave some youngsters the chance to show what they can do with Tyrique George and Shim Mhueka getting some valuable minutes.

What now for Chelsea?

Chelsea are back in action on Sunday with a Premier League home clash against Leicester City. Their upcoming opponents are in the drop zone along with Southampton and Ipswich Town.

It has been a tough spell for the Foxes since they won the Championship title under Maresca last year. They have found the step up to the top flight tricky and lost 2-0 away at West Ham last time out.

The Blues then face Copenhagen in their second leg next Thursday. They don’t have the healthiest lead heading into that one as they look to progress into the next round and still have work to do.

A big worry from their match on Thursday night was the fact Malo Gusto was taken off injured with Marc Cucurella coming on for him. He went off with an issue with his ankle and he will now need to be assessed.

Benoit Badiashile made his return to the starting XI in Denmark. Speaking ahead of the game, Maresca shared this selection update: "They are both [Wes Fofana and Badiashile] ready. Trev (Chalobah) was not something serious so he is OK. Benoit has been training in the past 10 days, probably even more. Wes is not in the squad but he is back. Romeo (Lavia) has started to train with us in the last two days.

"Slowly but surely we are getting players back and ready for the final bit of the season. We said already a few times, unfortunately our bad moment started with the amount of injuries but some of them are already back and in the process to be back. It is a huge boost for me and for the players."
