Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is understood to be monitoring the contract situation of soon-to-be free agent Victor Lindelof as he approaches the final few months of his contract at Old Trafford. The 30-year-old, who arrived from Benfica for a figure of £31m in 2017, has racked up 270 appearances for Manchester United, but is likely to leave at the end of the season in just four months' time.

Manchester World reports that Ruben Amorim sees the Swedish international as a peripheral player and not someone that is a part of his long-term vision for the club as he aims to build a younger United team that can once again compete for European qualification. Wolves are understood to be one of the main contenders for the defender's signature, but Caught Offside adds that the likes of Everton and Fulham are also on alert and considering moves for the experienced centre back.

Lindelof left Benfica for Man Utd back in the summer of 2017, and he’s now being lined up for a move back to Portugal to replace Nicolas Otamendi in defence. While Italian giants AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in adding the defender to their squad to bolster their defensive depth.

Should Wolves make the move for Victor Lindelof?

Wolves have one of the worst defensive records in the division but have shown huge signs of improvement under Vitor Pereira since switching to a more solid and stable five at the back. However, they still lack depth in defensive areas and could benefit hugely from someone such as Lindelof due to his experience and know-how in the Premier League.

Lindelof is a former Europa League winner, an FA Cup winner, a Carabao Cup winner with Champions League experience and 70 caps for Sweden, who he captains at international level. As a free agent, he would instantly provide Wolves with experience without costing a transfer fee - and could help improve the team’s fortunes next term. However, Lindelof’s injury record this season has led to him playing just six league games while his wage demands are also likely to be high after an eight-year stint on the books at Old Trafford.

With the right wages and on a short-term deal, Lindelof could help Wolves climb the table next season if they secure survival, but they must be careful not to overspend on wages.
