Emerson’s future at West Ham has been up in the air for some time now, but the Irons may have already made their final decision based on the most recent transfer update.

It has been a strange campaign for the Italian, having impressed for West Ham on several occasions while being the main concern on others.

With that said, it was reported prior to the winter transfer window that Emerson was unhappy at West Ham, and from that moment on, there has been a cloud of confusion over where his future lies.

However, with the latest round of transfer news, it appears this situation is only going to go one way, with a summer exit now surely inevitable.

Of course, West Ham will only allow Emerson to leave if a replacement is brought in, and amid links to Sunderland’s Dennis Cirkin [Sunderland AFC News], it appears they have already found one.

Given the likely heafty pricetag that would be placed on Cirkin’s head, its hard to see the Irons making a swoop for him, only to place him behind Emerson in the pecking order.

However, on the flip side, Emerson is just as unlikely to accept his new role as a squad player, making a summer exit the best option for both parties.

Emerson has been inconsistent this season

Theres no doubting that Emerson has ability, but that has been unable to flourish anywhere near enough for the Hammers to want to retain his services.

That, added with the fact that he had previously expressed his desires to seek greener pastures, makes it seem almost nailed on that he will depart the London Stadium this summer.

Graham Potter has a new-found system at West Ham

Two victories in a row have all but ended any fears of relegation but also provided an insight into the way the Irons may start next season.

Five at the back has been used for the last two West Ham encounters, and to good effect. However, for that to remain the preferred style, Potter will be keen to add specific players to his squad this summer.

Cirkin would be a perfect fit for that system, given his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch, something Emerson has struggled to do.
