How Chelsea fans reacted to their players at full-time of Conference League win over Copenhagen - journalist

The committed set of Chelsea away fans were greeted to a European win as the Blues beat Copenhagen 2-1 in the first leg of the Conference League Round of 16.

There is certainly pressure from supporters on the Blues to win this competition this year, and even though Enzo Maresca is safe in his job, this will be seen as a must-win for Chelsea.

The manager named a blend of his first team stars as well as young talents, with him handing a first start to Shumaira Mheuka up front.

The youngster was unable to get into the game before being replaced at half-time, and it was the second 45 minutes where Chelsea hit their stride.

Chelsea fans delighted with their players in Conference League win vs Copenhagen

Reece James and Enzo Fernandez found the net, with James the star man for the Blues as they put themselves in a great position to advance to the next round of the Conference League.

While they conceded late from a set-piece, Chelsea fans were very happy with what they saw from the players on the pitch, and made this clear with how they sent the players off at full-time.

According to journalist Simon Johnson, those in attendance were complimentary of the players who picked up their first win away from home since the last Conference League game against Astana.

He said: “Away fans giving the players and staff a good reception as they go off.”

While the reception at full-time was positive, the feeling was very different at the break when the score was still 0-0.

Chelsea had not managed a single shot on target at this point, and there fans were beginning to grow frustrated at what they were seeing in a game that was very clearly there for the taking.

Kieran Gill said: “Chelsea fans in the away end were calling on the players to get more up for this game as they walked into the tunnel next to them for HT.”

Given the fact the second leg falls just three days before a huge game against Arsenal, there will have been a desire to wrap up the tie after the first leg. However, Chelsea have left themselves in a brilliant position to progress to the quarter-finals.
