That time has officially come—roster cuts. The Buffalo Bills have released punter Sam Martin. Martin was entering the final year of his contract but the release saves Buffalo almost $1.9 million in cap space.
The 35-year-old joined Buffalo in 2022 and has averaged 46.7 yards per punt across the last seasons. Perhaps the Bills prefer to roll with a young and cheaper option for the 2025-26 season after Martin was in the bottom 10 in punting stats in 2024.
Buffalo signed punter Jake Camarda to a reserves/futures contract at the beginning of the new year, leaving him as the sole punter on the roster at the moment. There likely won’t be too many punter options in the draft in April, so I’d expect the Bills to sign multiple players to compete in training camp.
The special teams unit has taken quite a hit in just a few months time with the firing of special teams coordinator Matthew Smiley and now an expected Puntapalooza come training camp.
It's about to be Puntapalooza o'clock.
