Manchester City looking to sign 23-year-old Ukrainian to replace key man

Manchester City could end up making a move for Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin ahead of next season.

With Ederson’s long-term future uncertain, Manchester City have already started the search for a new shot-stopper. Their scouts have been keeping a close eye on some of the best young goalkeepers in the world. According to a report from TBR, Pep Guardiola’s team are quite impressed with what they have seen from Anatoliy Trubin, and they are eyeing a summer move for the Benfica star.

Trubin came up the ranks at Shakhtar Donetsk. He got promoted to their first team at the start of 2020. After a few impressive seasons with their senior side, the Ukranian international ended up making the move to Benfica in the summer of 2023.

He is certainly enjoying life in Portugal, as he has kept a total of 33 clean sheets in 84 outings. The 23-year-old has only conceded 82 goals so far. Not only has he been a consistent performer in Liga Portugal, but he has also delivered impressive performances in the Champions League.

City are interested in Trubin’s signature

His work has put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world, and Manchester City are one of the clubs that are closely monitoring him ahead of a move next summer. Guardiola’s team are planning for life without Ederson, and they are doing an extensive assessment of potential candidates.

They have been following Trubin for some time now and are quite impressed with what they have seen from him. City could end up knocking on the doors of Benfica ahead of next season. While his contract there runs until 2028, the Portuguese club will struggle to keep hold of him if City do actually make a move.

As far as Ederson is concerned, he will only have 12 months left on his deal next summer, and he could choose to walk away amidst interest from the Middle East. He was open to a move to the Saudi Pro League last summer, and his stance hasn’t changed. As a result, City have started preparing for life without him.
