New Mock Draft Has Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart Leap Into Top-5 Picks

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart has been arguably the most popular name in NFL Draft circles for the last month. Although many consider him to be a late-first or early-second-round prospect, Charles Davis from NFL.com predicted Dart would be selected No. 3 overall by the New York Giants in his latest mock draft.

"The last time the Giants went all in on a QB from Ole Miss, it worked out pretty well," wrote Davis. "I know people have not been projecting Dart to go this high, but New York has a screaming need at the position. After passing on Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix in last year's draft, the G-Men might not feel like they can sit back and wait this time around."

Dart is far from the NFL prospect that Eli Manning was coming out of Ole Miss, but many feel that he has one of the higher ceilings of any player in the draft. He did break almost all of Manning's records as a Rebel, but the professional level requires something different than the college ranks do.

Still, the Utah native had a stellar three-year career in Oxford, throwing for nearly 11,000 yards and 72 touchdowns. In his senior season, he tossed 29 touchdowns and added 4,279 passing yards, which was the third-most in the country. It is still a long shot that he gets selected so early in the NFL Draft, but it could pay off for the Giants if they play their cards right.
