Ex-NBA Players End Steph Gurry, Point Guard Debate While Making Loud Statement

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has seemed like a new player since the team acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat.

Curry had a vintage performance against the Orlando Magic on Feb. 27.

He hit a shot from beyond half-court to end the half and scored 56 points and made 12 3-pointers en route to a comeback win.

It was a performance reminiscent of his MVP days. While the 36-year-old likely won't be taking home that hardware this season, it prompted analysts everywhere to start talking about Curry again.

Lou Williams, Chandler Parsons end the Steph Curry debate

On FanDuel's "Run it Back," a familiar discussion came up.

Some people think Curry can't be considered the greatest point guard of all time because he doesn't play like a point guard.

"I think he's the best point guard, and I think he's been a starting point guard his entire career," Chandler Parsons said. "Klay Thompson has been the two guard. It's hard to say he's not a point guard when he's legitimately played that position his entire career."

Parsons then compared Curry to other star players that play similar to Curry than a traditional point guard.

"Dame Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Luka are all technically 'off-guards' too, but they're still point guards," Parsons said. "He is a point guard, and he's the best point guard of all time."

Former three-time Sixth Man of the Year Award winner Lou Williams compared Curry to one of the greatest scorers the NBA has ever seen while agreeing with some of the point guard versus shooting guard remarks.

"Curry identifies as much as a point guard as Allen Iverson was," Williams said. "You're the point guard, you're the guy who brings the ball up the floor, but in essence, you're a shooting guard. I agree with some of this; he's still going to go down as one of the greatest point guards in the game."

Steph Curry isn't a pure point guard, but he's still the position's :

The game has evolved so much from yesteryear. The days of having a player on the court whose sole responsibility is to pass and set up teammates are over. If you're not getting scoring from every position on the floor, you're falling behind.

While Curry may not be remembered as a traditional point guard like Magic Johnson or Steve Nash, he's arguably had just as big of an impact or more on his organization as the two hall-of-famers.
