DK Metcalf officially requested a trade off of the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, and the team seems willing to grant his request. However, as trade talks have begun to unfold, a concerning update has been reported that will catch the attention of fans who are hoping their team will acquire Metcalf.
As the 2024 campaign went on, Metcalf gradually was passed over by Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the team's top wide receiver, making it likely the Seahawks would trade him this offseason. Sure enough, Metcalf made things official when he went public with his trade request, saying he wants to land with a contending team.
"Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf has requested a trade away from Seattle and prefers to be dealt to a contending team, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Metcalf, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, made his trade request Wednesday after a series of conversations over the past two weeks, the source told Schefter," Brady Henderson of ESPN reported.
With this development, Metcalf has immediately become one of the top wide receivers available this offseason. Acquiring him may not be easy, though, as reports have emerged suggesting that the Seahawks are charging a hard bargain for Metcalf as these discussions begin to unfold.
"Follow up: Same league source just told me 'right now the Seahawks want too much' for D.K. Metcalf, in their opinion. Sounds like this particular team will circle back," Josina Anderson shared in a post on X.

Metcalf caught 66 passes for 992 yards and five touchdowns in 2024, and while those are solid numbers, it was arguably the worst season of his career.
The two-time Pro Bowler is set to enter the final year of his three-year, $72 million contract, and he's made it clear he will be looking for a new deal, which is something teams who are considering trading for Metcalf will have to take into account.
