Liverpool winger, Ben Doak, has returned from his loan spell at Middlesbrough this season, after undergoing surgery, writes Ian Doyle for Liverpool Echo.
The 19-year-old was a regular starter at Middlesbrough, but an injury ruled him out in late January. Before the injury, Doak had made a significant impact, scoring three goals and providing seven assists in his appearances.
However, after the injury showed no signs of significant improvement, the decision was made for Doak to undergo surgery to repair the damage. Ben Doak is now at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, focusing on his recovery.
Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick confirmed the move, explaining that it is common for loan players to return to their parent clubs for treatment in such cases. While Doak’s return to action this season remains uncertain, Carrick is hopeful for his full recovery.
“It’s unfortunate for us as a squad and for Ben individually. Nobody wants to be injured, but it is part of the game. He’ll be back stronger.”
Carrick said.
He also mentioned that it’s difficult to predict when the Liverpool winger might be available to play again. The injury setback occurred after Doak had been progressing well with his rehab, and it is a blow to both the player and Middlesbrough’s ambitions for the season.
Doak’s impact on Middlesbrough and his recovery journey
Doak’s absence has had a significant impact on Middlesbrough. The team has lost four of their last six matches and dropped from fifth to 11th in the Championship table.
Doak’s creativity and attacking contributions, including three goals and seven assists, were vital to the team’s success earlier in the season. His ability to deliver assists and create chances from the wing was a vital asset for the team.
Although his immediate return is uncertain, Doak’s rehabilitation at Liverpool provides him with the best chance to recover fully. Both Liverpool and Middlesbrough are closely monitoring his progress.
Fans of both clubs will hope to see the winger back on the pitch soon, but the priority will be ensuring he returns in full fitness, rather than rushing him back prematurely.
