Superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf shocked the NFL world Wednesday afternoon when he requested a trade from Seattle.
The former All-Pro showed signs of frustration during several games last year, but he has always been an expressive player, so the outbursts were chalked up to emotion in the heat of the moment.
When ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news, he reported that Metcalf prefers to land with a contender. So, he clearly wasn't comfortable with the direction Seattle was heading towards as a franchise and has decided to play elsewhere.
The team has made the playoffs just once in the last four seasons, and with an incredibly young core, it's apparent they won't be in a position to compete for Super Bowls in the near future.
With the recent infusion of youth on the roster, the next hurdle for the Seahawks is getting fair compensation for Metcalf to add to their stockpile of assets.
It's been one of the most chaotic wide receiver offseasons of all time, with multiple stars requesting trades and a bunch more available in free agency.
Deebo Samuel was the first domino in terms of trades and the San Francisco 49ers only received a fifth-round pick in return. This could complicate things for Seattle as they are seeking a much more lucrative package.
Dianna Russini of ESPN reported that the Seahawks will be searching for a first and third-round pick in a deal for the two-time Pro Bowler.
They are likely looking at Davante Adams' and Amari Cooper's in-season trades as a framework for a potential deal. The Las Vegas Raiders and Cleveland Browns both fetched third-round picks in the deals.

At this point in his career, Metcalf is considerably better than both, so Seattle has set a lofty price for their star.
If anyone is willing to pay that much for his services remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain, this is huge news for the Los Angeles Chargers.
They have been linked to seemingly every receiver available on the open market and on the trade block, and it won't stop with this move.
Previously, every potential option was either aging, coming off an injury, or declining in performance. Metcalf on the other hand, has been durable historically and fits the Chargers timeline perfectly.
For a team desperately seeking o increase their production on the outside, a superstar has just fallen into their laps. The only question is will they be willing to give up what it takes in order to acquire him.
