Arsenal are back in Premier League action this weekend

Arsenal are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United. They are currently sat 2nd in the Premier League table behind Liverpool.

The Gunners look set to fall short in the title race again this season. Mikel Arteta’s side should have enough to seal their place in the top four again.

They also remain in the Champions League. The London club have the chance to bolster their ranks in the summer when the next transfer window opens.

Arsenal linked with Hugo Ekitike

Arsenal are being linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. It has been well documented that they could do with some more firepower at the top end of the pitch.

According to Fussball News, they are ‘interested’ in luring the Bundesliga ace over to England later this year. However, they face competition for his signature with fellow top flight clubs Liverpool and West Ham also mentioned as potential suitors.

Ekitike, 22, is valued at £34million on Transfermarkt so they would need to fork out big money to get him. He could be seen as someone to add more competition and depth to their attacking department.

The former France youth international spent the second-half of the last campaign on loan with Frankfurt before they made his switch permanent last summer. He has scored 22 goals altogether for his current club to date, 18 of which have come this term.

He started his career at Stade de Reims and broke into their first-team as a youngster. His breakthrough into senior football as a teenager saw him emerge on the radar of PSG and they snapped him up in 2022.

However, Ekitike wasn’t able to make an impact during his time in the French capital and struggled for regular game time. His move to Frankfurt gave him a fresh start and an opportunity to show what he can do in a new country and he hasn’t looked back since. They could now be in line for a hefty profit on him with Arsenal said to be keen.

Arsenal’s last outing

Arsenal won 7-1 away at PSV in the Champions League last time out. Speaking afterwards, Arteta said: “I really enjoyed the match – thank you to the players for the performance they put in on a big night for us against a really good side. The way they went through in the last round against Juventus was really impressive so the manner that we’ve done it, the way that we’ve played, the goals that we scored; thank you because it was a special night.”

He added: “Well, it obviously gives us a lot of joy, confidence and belief, and then in football, it’s not what we did three days ago, or today, it’s about what we’re going to do tomorrow, or at Old Trafford, how we behave and able to win again, and that’s it. Enjoy tonight because it was a very impressive performance, an unbelievable score, so we deserve that, and now take that, and keep improving as a team.”
